In second place on the list is Cyrus's "Flowers." This pop tune made a powerful entrance into 2023 and quickly became a major smash that would define the year. "Flowers" dominated the Hot 100, claiming the No. 1 spot for eight weeks and continues to maintain a strong presence in the top five on the chart.

What is quite surprising is the closeness in performance between "Last Night" and "Flowers." Both singles have accumulated over 4.8 million equivalent units, with less than a 50,000 unit difference between them. However, as "Flowers" gradually descends the Hot 100, it is expected that the gap will widen, as "Last Night" is likely to reclaim the summit in the coming days.

Completing the top five on the list of the most-consumed songs in the U.S. this year are SZA's "Kill Bill" in third place with 4.5 million equivalent units, PinkPantheress's "Boy's A Liar Pt. 2" in fourth with 3.2 million equivalent units, and Rema & Selena Gomez's "Calm Down" in fifth with nearly 2.8 million equivalent units. Interestingly, while Gomez is credited on "Calm Down" due to the fact that it is her remix that helped propel the song up the charts, Ice Spice is absent from "Boy's A Liar Pt. 2," despite her involvement being one of the factors that contributed to its success.

The top 10 list of the most-consumed songs in the U.S. in 2023 showcases incredible genre diversity. Country, pop, R&B, Afrobeats, alternative, hip-hop, and even regional Mexican music are all represented with at least one track. This indicates a shift in what Americans are listening to, with a wide range of styles gaining popularity.
